My vote for the tomato note is not Celadon (have been sampling it since late Northern Hemisphere winter into the summer and it feels like an incomplete draft -- good but not quite great) but instead Aedes de Venustas Signature. This eponymous scent is discombobulating in the very best way -- vegetal, ripe, and multidimensional spice. On card it was both repellant and ensorcelling. Still dreaming about the sample! Related, I think rhubarb, mint, and carrot seed are poised to feature more, too. Long reign freshness from unexpected sources! And, 100% agree on the green chypre revival. I'm not certain that it's this but Obvious Scoville feels adjacent on a scent level though not necessarily in notes.
I absolutely love this perfume and think it’s a great tomato vine choice. I particularly love how it manages to stay light but grounded. I call it my summer incense, and it works for all but the hottest hot days in my dry climate. But I particularly love it for that late summer moment when you can feel the seasons starting to change in spite of the continued heat
Also, Fumes is hands-down the best Substack content in my feed. Certainly, it helps that I’m a Parfum nerd but compositionally speaking it blows everything else out of the water. Thanks, Miccaeli; your efforts are palpable.
Nice notes! One thing I do want to shout out is FZOTIC for including a same-scent sample with every FB purchase. One could blind buy one of his and sample it with the sample before opening the bottle. If it isn't for them, they can return the bottle. I wish this was a more common practice across the board -- especially for brands that only offer samples in discovery sets.
That being said, I never recommend blind buying. I've only done it once -- for Deixis -- and was happy with it, but I'm familiar with the rest of the line's DNA and Amber is one of my favorite categories, so it was pretty dang safe.
Seconding the same and have freight forwarding for U.S. to Europe as well! Will hopefully be back in Aus in December and can aim to bring some things then ☺️
Not sure if you've tried it already but Heeley Esprit du Tigre is very much a Tiger Balm fragrance! I suspect it's not super popular because in the US, stores that carry Heeley don't seem to sell that particular scent. (I got samples from eBay.)
I’m currently obsessed with Ganymede from Marc-Antoine Barrois. It is unlike anything else I have ever owned or even smelled before. I’m not sure if I can do it justice in a clumsy attempt at pigeon holing it into an olfactory “category”. One reviewer on the Barrois site suggested that it smelled like a plastic doll they received for Christmas as a child. Strangely, I somehow knew what the reviewer was getting at. My wife and I spent an embarrassing amount of time in Aèdes Perfumery on Orchard St. in NYC last fall and Ganymede is what I walked out with.
I’m with you on everything except the tomato leaf. I don’t mind it, but I’m a bit over it. I feel like everyone has to have one or they need it to do ‘green.’ It’s often overdosed IMO. The tomato note in Nuit de Bakélite, however, is great. It’s Like tomatoes on the moon. I hope that green chypres trend this year (one of my fav. Sub genres.
As for the limited releases, I’ll forever miss out as I’m slow to warm to most and don’t usually blind buy tho the reboots of the Areej favorites sound really nice.

Ooh, fascinating! You’ve convinced me to order it and integrate into my August-September scents this year. Thank you so much!!! xx

I'm so here for a great chypre...

I have an address in Europe- if you ever want anything shipped onwards I’m sure I can help… I even have some of the same samples on my list…

Thankyou for an educational post. Agree with you about the samples and Thankyou for the Australian sites.

Chromodoro from Astrophil & Stella is a beautifully aromatic tomato leaf scent.
Isn’t La Feuille by Miller Harris a tomato note as well?
